Now that we know what we’re having, it’s time to start thinking about the nursery.
The previous owners of our house had a little girl and they painted her bedroom pink. We immediately decided to leave the pink in hopes that we would eventually get pregnant – and then we would have a 50/50 chance of having a girl.
Well, we’re having a BOY, so bye-bye pink room!
Our little girl theme would’ve been pink princess. I know, so cliche, but I loved the idea of pink, lace and tiaras everywhere. I hadn’t thought too much about what I would want the boy theme to be so I went to Pinterest for inspiration…and found A LOT! We narrowed it down to a few.
This was my first thought. I love all of the colors and superhero stuff is sold everywhere. My husband ultimately convinced me that superheroes were “too scary” for a baby. He even remembers being a toddler and thinking some of the Batman stuff was scary. (And that was back when those movies included comedy. Now, all of the superhero stuff is soooo dark.) So, no superhero theme for us. Although, I do plan to dress the little guy in Captain America and Superman gear.
This was my husband’s favorite theme. There are two choices: woodland animals like foxes, bears and squirrels, or safari animals: giraffes, elephants and zebras. I thought maybe we could do a Noah’s Ark theme. I wasn’t super fond of the animal theme idea, but it was a solid choice if we couldn’t agree on anything else.
SUPER MARIO THEME
Again with the colors! I think Super Mario stuff is SO CUTE – despite never owning a single video game as a kid. I just think his little overalls and hat are perfect for a baby. I definitely am going to have to dress him in an outfit.
NAUTICAL or BEACH THEME
This one is cool because we like cruising. So, all the anchor, ship wheels, sand, sunshine and map stuff is adorable. Ultimately, we decided that the babies room shouldn’t be about “us” though.
MICKEY MOUSE THEME
Mickey Mouse! One of my favorite trips involved when I went to Florida for a journalism conference with a friend. My husband came along too. On the last day, we had about four hours to kill before our flight, and free tickets to Disney (press perks!), so we took an Uber to Disney World and ran around Magic Kingdom for four hours. If you’ve been to Disney, you know you need about four days, but it was totally worth it. That’s my only experience at Disney but I can’t wait to take our son there.
CHARLIE BROWN AND THE PEANUTS GANG THEME
Ultimately, we decided to go with a classic: Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang! There’s lots of colors and the characters are not scary at all. Plus, Snoopy’s nickname is Joe Cool and my husband’s name is Joe. This isn’t a super popular theme and I hardly see Peanuts anything in stores, so we’ll probably have to get most of the stuff online. Still, I’m SO excited to decorate the baby’s room in this theme. I look forward to when he is old enough to recognize the characters.
What other baby boy nursery themes can you think of?
