Ten Weeks Later: No More Walking Boot!

FINALLY! I’M WALKING WITHOUT MY BOOT!

Walking without my bootTechnically, I was approved to try walking without my boot last week during my follow up appointment with the surgeon.

However, my foot was still sore while walking in the boot that day, so I waited until my physical therapist appointment this week to try walking without it. The therapist watched me walk and said I should be okay without the boot.

Yay! Continue reading

No Sew Dress Fix

No Sew Formal Dress Fashionable Fix!

I love formal dresses but sometimes they can be difficult to wear with undergarments.

Oscar Sunday, I featured Drexel Movie Theater’s Red Carpet Bash and I wanted to wear formal gown.

Drexel Theater Oscars

I found this one at Plato’s Closet (for $25!) and it was perfect…except it has an extremely low cut back. Continue reading

Alissa Decorated Crutches

How to Decorate Your Crutches!

I sustained a pretty serious foot injury in my car accident back in December. As a result, I have to use crutches. I’ve never used crutches before and, now that I have them, I wouldn’t wish crutches (or my accident and resulting injury in general) on my worst enemy. While, I’m stuck with them, I figured I may as well decorate them.

I used to tell myself that I’m not creative, but that isn’t true.

The Seven Week Itch - I’m Over This Injury!

At the risk of sounding incredibly naive, I truly thought the injuries from my accident would last for six weeks total. Laying in the hospital, I assumed I’d have some significant recovery time, but I figured I would be back to regular life like nothing happened in six weeks. I figured I’d be back in a car, back walking around and maybe even back in my heels and training for a full marathon by now.

But no.

Seven weeks have passed and I’m just now able to simply rest my foot on the ground without having to endure extreme pain. Continue reading

#StillRolling

Whenever people ask me how I’m doing, this is usually my response: “I’m still rolling!”

I’m not able to walk for a few more (agonizing!) weeks, so I’m literally “still rolling” around on my scooter. But I’m also not sitting around feeling sorry for myself. As much as I can help it, I’m remaining as active as possible – even if that activity involves more sitting than normal. I’m moving forward with my life after the accident. So, in that way as well, I’m “still rolling”. Continue reading

We Survived the Car Accident! God Is Good!

Alissa and Joe at HospitalReunited with my phone and finally home! God is so good!!! He protected us from what could have been a fatal accident.

As most of you know, after work on Wednesday night, Joe and I were involved in a multi-vehicle car accident caused by a semi-truck driver. When our car flipped, I didn’t know what to think. All I could do was cover my head and call on Jesus. I am so thankful to be alive. I am so thankful that my husband is alive (and that he walked away unscathed!). I am so thankful for the complete strangers who saw the wreck and rushed over to help us. A few guys pulled Joe out of the car and, because I couldn’t move, others calmed me down and waited with me until the paramedics arrived! Those people - whoever they are - deserve the very best in life and I hope they get it. Continue reading

#FeatureReporterFun

How does the saying go? A Sunday well-spent brings a week of content.

Well, every Sunday is well spent because I feature report live on ABC 6 & Fox 28’s Good Day Columbus from 7 until 10am. There is something about morning shows that I just love. This is probably because I love mornings in general. Some people loathe mornings, but I feel blessed to wake up every day and do what I love. Plus everything is new, fresh, bright, sunny and so full of promise in the morning. I love working on the morning show! Continue reading

What I’m Reading: How To Talk With Practically Anybody About Practically Anything

How To Talk With Practically Anybody About Practically AnythingLately, I’ve bought most of my books electronically through iBooks or Kindle so I can read them at-will on my phone and iPad. However, the book I’m reading now is a good old-fashioned, actual worn pages, hardcover BOOK. My time machine worked! Just kidding… Continue reading
