The shirt my husband got me

Because That’s How Men Are

The shirt

I can’t tell you when he got this shirt for me, but I remember vividly that he did.

He hasn’t bought me very many clothes during the course of our relationship, but that’s because I’m the shopper in our marriage. He did however buy me two shirts while we were dating. Maybe it was a birthday or Christmas or Valentine’s Day or Just Because, I’m not sure. But I know he got them for me and I cherish those shirts. I am always getting rid of clothes but I wouldn’t dream of giving away a shirt Joe bought me. Every time I see it in my closet, I remember his gift. Continue reading

Cheers to Three Years!

Joe and I just celebrated our anniversary!

Joe and Alissa HenryIt has been three amazing years since we tied the knot! A lot has happened between then and now, but we still feel like newlyweds in some ways. Then again, considering the fact that we’re going for 60 years, we ARE still newlyweds.

We normally celebrate our anniversary out of town. For our first anniversary, we stayed in a nice hotel in Troy, Ohio. Last year, we stayed in a cabin in Amish Country. This year, because of my injury, we decided to do something in town and low-key. Continue reading

We Survived the Car Accident! God Is Good!

Alissa and Joe at HospitalReunited with my phone and finally home! God is so good!!! He protected us from what could have been a fatal accident.

As most of you know, after work on Wednesday night, Joe and I were involved in a multi-vehicle car accident caused by a semi-truck driver. When our car flipped, I didn’t know what to think. All I could do was cover my head and call on Jesus. I am so thankful to be alive. I am so thankful that my husband is alive (and that he walked away unscathed!). I am so thankful for the complete strangers who saw the wreck and rushed over to help us. A few guys pulled Joe out of the car and, because I couldn’t move, others calmed me down and waited with me until the paramedics arrived! Those people - whoever they are - deserve the very best in life and I hope they get it. Continue reading

Best Staycation Ever!

For the past fourteen years, every time I’ve gone to Easton Towncenter, I’ve wanted to stay at the Hilton hotel.

If you’re not from Columbus, just look at this picture!

Beautiful!

One weekend this past October I had Sunday off (my first Sunday off in more than a year!), so my husband and I decided to make the most of this rare two-day weekend and booked the hotel. Continue reading

My Experience On The Katie Couric Show

Joe and Alissa Henry were featured on The Katie Couric Show April 25, 2014

I’m still not sure how she got my cell phone number….

I guess I could have asked, but when a producer from the Katie Couric show calls saying she read (and liked!) your blog and wants you and your husband to come on the show, the last thing you care about is how she tracked down your digits.

I was sitting at my desk at work scheduling my feature for Sunday’s morning show when the 212 number popped up on my screen. I didn’t even think twice about the area code when I said “hello”. The voice on the other end said, “Hi, is this Alissa? My name is ___ and I’m calling from the Katie Couric Show.”

That got my attention.

She was calling to find out if my husband and I wanted to be guests on the show to talk about our decision to abstain from sex until our wedding night.

Ummm…what??

Married Life Randomness: Old Mill Candy Kitchen Edition [Video]

One of the fun parts of being married? Taking sporadic trips with my love.

Me and the hubby randomly decided to go to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I’d never heard of it, but now that I’m here I’m thinking, WOW this place is awesome! Dollywood is here too (yes, named after Dolly Parton!).

Turning A Spare Room Into A Dream Closet (Or Why I Have The BEST Husband Ever!)

(I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while and I was going to put this in my last post about my husband being a handyman, but figured it needed a post all by itself.)

The seed was planted when I was a sophomore in college and visited a friend living in another state. While I was there, she took me to visit two of her other friends. They were sisters and lived in a very nice house with their parents. They shared a room (which I found odd for a seventeen and nineteen-year-old). The reason they shared a room though was they’d turned the other bedroom into a dressing room! It was filled with racks of clothes and had a huge mirror. I remember it was a mess in there but the fact that they had an entire room devoted to their clothes and shoes and purses and stuff was pretty awesome to me.
